Before I
built my
first guitar, I was always doing some sort of guitar related
refinishing, rewiring, or repair. After about 5 years of building and
repairing part-time, I decided to fully devote myself to luthrie. I
attended the Summit School of Guitar Building and Repair in British
Columbia, Canada, where I learned the fine art of acoustic guitar and
mandolin construction, and honed my skills at the equally challenging
fine art of musical instrument repair.
I focused on 6 string acoustic guitar building for a
number of
years
before I began building 8 string guitars, and I find them both equally
intriguing. I built my first Fanned-Fret® 8 string during my
studies at Summit school. And, realizing how much
sense having multiple scale lengths made, I knew I had to build one. I
completed my first 8 string guitar in February of 1999. Since the completion of
that
first guitar, I have been exclusively playing 8 string guitar. Not only are my instruments crafted with my
experiences as a professional instrument builder, and my experience running and owning various repair shops, but my designs
also incorporate my experiences as a performing musician.
In addition to guitar building and repair, I have
been a
professional sound man, played in various bands with various styles,
currently playing in a duo "Wes Lambe and Scott Crews". Also
currently the head Luthier for The Music Loft in Carrboro, NC.
